Green Camping

For a green camping holiday, you should consider your carbon footprint, for example a typical UK family holiday against that of a trip to Spain, it’s easy to see why a UK camping holiday becomes attractive for minimising the impact your holiday may have on the environment. A return flight to Spain for a family can generate around 1.3 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

To further reduce the carbon produced from your holiday with us, a few years ago we started a “plant a tree scheme” on our farm, to help offset the carbon generated. So far we have planted over 500 trees!

We are a sustainable business

This means, we constantly try to improve in a range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and social involvement and communication.

Shepherd’s Rest works responsibly, ethically and sustainably, contributes to their community, is reducing their impact on the environment and aims to be accessible and inclusive to all visitors and staff.

So when you are staying with us you can have the assurance that we are doing all that we can now and into the future to make our business as Sustainable as possible.

To recognise this we are delighted to have been awarded a  “Green Tourism” accreditation for running our campsite as an environmentally sustainable business.

Always look for and use re-cycling facilities at the campsite you are staying on – they usually allow you to re-cycle glass, plastic and metal and will have separate bins for general waste. Some may have food waste containers.

When using communal site facilities. Don’t leave the taps/showers running all the time & switch off lights after use to save water and power.

Never empty your chemical waste anywhere other than at a designated area. Most campsites have facilities for the emptying of your cassette toilet.

BBQ’s / fires should only be lit at properly designated areas and should be fully extinguished when finished.

Search out local produce to buy – farm shops, local markets and independent retailers will stock fabulous veg, fruit, meat, cheese, as well as pottery, glassware, gifts and holiday mementos.

Enjoy eating out in local cafes, coffee shops and restaurants, try regional foods and drinks – soak up the atmosphere and relax – you’re on holiday!!
