One of the best ways to explore the beautiful cycle friendly countryside in the Scottish Borders and Northumberland is by bike. It’s an environmentally friendly, affordable and accessible way to see some of the most breath taking natural sights around. That’s why at Shepherd’s Rest, we’re proud to provide cycle friendly camping.

Cycle Friendly Accomodation

If you want to get away with your family or friends and explore the great outdoors by bike, then we have you covered. You can organise your camping and cycling trip stay at Shepherd’s Rest Campsite. We provide a variety of different cycle friendly camping options. If you are arriving by bike or walking we have smaller tent pitches available at reduced rates. Alternativly we have spaces for to pitch your own tent, campervan or stay in one of our Ready Tents or luxury Shepherd’s huts

Facilities

Our site welcomes BYO tent campers, plus we have Ready tents for those with just their own bedding and Shepherd’s huts fully furnished if you’re looking for a touch of luxury. There are plenty of facilities on site for cyclists – warm showers, toilets, kitchen area, mobile phone charging, clothes washing/drying, secure sheltered bike storage, e-bike charging, repair station and a large indoor lounge area to eat and relax. Cycling Holidays

Cycling on your camping trip provides a whole wealth of benefits for the whole family. There is a huge synergy between camping and cycling and it’s all about spending your time in the fresh air, taking in sights, sounds and smells of the countryside and seeing nature at an enjoyable pace. Leave the car, explore the countryside, and prepare to feel liberated and invigorated. Plus, it’s so much friendlier to the environment!

It can also be an affordable option for those family trips. There’s no need to factor in fuel costs, parking or toll fees. A day out spent cycling together around the stunning Scottish Borders countryside will be a lot easier on your wallet. That means you can even treat yourself to an ice cream at the beach or a tasty snack in a local café.

If you are on a longer ride, we are located adjacent to a few long distance cycle routes, the ever popular Coast and Castles from Newcastle to Edinburgh, the amazing Route 1 which takes in England and Scotland, Route 68 and the new exciting The Kirkpatrick C2C, South of Scotland’s Coast to Coast

Connecting through Europe

Shepherd’s Rest Campsite, as well as being a fantastic base to explore Scotland and Northumberland, it is close to Route 1, which is part of a longer route called EuroVelo 12 which connects to Norway and Holland. EuroVelo is a network of 15 fantastic long-distance cycle routes which connect the whole European continent. These cycling trails are a cycle tourist’s dream: epic journeys which take in some of the best landscapes and places of cultural interest in Europe.

The Scottish Borders and Northumberland are emerging as exciting places to visit if you want cycling friendly camping. With miles and miles of quiet roads and routes to suit all abilities, you can even try a spot of off-road cycling too. Why not organise your trip to take in some amazing beaches, historical gems, inspiring art and of course some lovely cafes & restaurants.
